At the end of the summer we put together a panel of judges consisting of teachers, writers, moms and staff who carefully read each entry in our Summer Superstars Writing Contest. Melinda was chosen according to one judge because “She really lets her voice come through in what she has written.”
Melinda is 10 years old and wants to be an artist. You can read her winning entry here. (She predictably used her finalist winnings to buy art supplies!) When asked how it feels to be the winner of the writing contest she replied “It means that all of the hard work I have done on my drawings has paid off and has helped my school. I am looking forward to all of the books that we will be able to put into our library!”
Melinda has chosen the Zion Lutheran School to receive $1000 from WIGU Publishing as well as a set of “When I Grow Up” books. Head teacher Courtney Salmon says,”Melinda is always willing to help anyone in need. This year our school has been focusing on service. Winning this money will be a great service to improving our school library!”
We applaud Melinda on articulating her dream in such a winning way and for helping her library grow!
